Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Civil Engineering Technician to join our team, with a primary focus on project inspection and bridge inspections. The ideal candidate will work closely with engineers, contractors, and project managers to ensure that civil engineering projects meet design specifications, safety standards, and quality control requirements. This role offers the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in both general project inspection and specialized bridge inspection.
Projects may encompass a diverse range of civil engineering work, including roadways, bridges, wastewater collection and treatment systems, water supply infrastructure, stormwater collection, mitigation and management, as well as site design and development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform inspections of civil engineering projects, including bridges, roadways, stormwater systems, utilities, and other infrastructure to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and safety standards.
- Conduct regular bridge inspections to assess structural integrity, identify potential issues, and document findings in accordance with local and national bridge inspection guidelines (e.g., NBI – National Bridge Inventory).
- Review construction materials and methods to verify adherence to design plans and contract specifications.
- Prepare detailed reports documenting inspection findings, including photographs, measurements, and recommendations for repairs or improvements.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and contractors to resolve any issues or discrepancies during construction or maintenance phases.
- Assist in monitoring project progress, verifying that work is completed according to the approved schedule and within budget.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and team members to perform site surveys and collect data for design and construction purposes.
- Conduct construction material testing by collecting samples and performing a range of tests, including soil and concrete tests, compaction proctors, in-place density measurements, Atterberg limits, grain size analysis, concrete slump, unit weight, air content, and compressive strength of concrete cylinders, among others
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s/Associate degree in related field (or equivalent experience).
Familiarity with civil engineering principles, design practices, and construction processes.
Proficient in civil engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar (or a willingness to learn).
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Eagerness to learn, grow, and contribute to the success of the team and projects.
