Position Overview: Eley McPherson Engineering, P.A. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Civil Engineering Technician to join our team, with a primary focus on construction inspection and construction materials testing. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, contractors, and project managers to ensure that construction activities comply with approved plans, specifications, quality control requirements, and applicable standards.
This position provides hands-on field experience on a wide variety of civil engineering projects and offers opportunities for professional development within construction inspection and materials testing disciplines.
Projects may include roadway and site development, water and wastewater infrastructure, stormwater collection and management systems, mitigation projects, and other public and private civil engineering improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform construction inspection services for civil engineering projects, including roadways, utilities, site development, drainage systems, and other infrastructure to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety requirements.
- Monitor construction activities and materials placement to verify adherence to approved construction methods, design documents, and applicable standards.
- Conduct construction materials testing (CMT) in both field and laboratory settings, including but not limited to: Soil classification and compaction testing (Proctors, in-place density testing)

- Atterberg limits and grain size analysis
- Concrete testing, including slump, unit weight, air content, and compressive strength testing of concrete cylinders
- Collect material samples, perform required tests, and accurately document results in accordance with project requirements and testing standards.
- Prepare clear and thorough inspection and testing reports, including daily field reports, test summaries, photographs, and documentation of nonconforming work.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and inspectors to address construction issues, testing results, and corrective actions.
- Assist with tracking construction progress and verifying quantities, schedules, and general compliance with contract requirements.
- Maintain testing equipment, ensure proper calibration, and follow established safety procedures and quality control protocols.
- Support senior engineering staff with field data collection, observations, and other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s/Associate degree in related field (or equivalent experience).
- Familiarity with civil engineering principles, design practices, and construction processes.
- Proficient in civil engineering software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar software (or a willingness to learn).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
