Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Land Surveying Technician to join our team, with a primary focus on expanding capacity to our surveying department. The Land Surveying Technician supports licensed land surveyors and engineers in collecting, analyzing, and preparing survey data for construction, boundary, and mapping projects. This role involves both fieldwork and office-based tasks, including operating surveying instruments, performing calculations, drafting survey plats, and assisting with the preparation of legal descriptions and reports. The technician ensures accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards, state regulations, and project requirements. 


Construction projects may encompass a diverse range of civil engineering work, including roadways, bridges, wastewater collection and treatment systems, water supply infrastructure, stormwater collection, mitigation and management, as well as site design and development. 


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Operate and maintain surveying instruments such as GPS/GNSS receivers, total stations, data collectors, digital levels, and drones (UAS). 
  • Assist in establishing horizontal and vertical control networks. 
  • Collect field data for boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction staking, ALTA/NSPS surveys, and right-of-way projects. 
  • Record field notes, sketches, and digital data accurately for office processing. 
  • Work safely in outdoor environments, including construction sites, roadways, wooded areas, and varying weather conditions 
  • Download, organize, and process raw survey data into CAD and GIS platforms. 
  • Perform survey calculations including traverses, closures, elevations, and coordinate geometry (COGO). 
  • Draft survey plats, topographic maps, and construction layout drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or similar software. 
  • Assist in preparing legal descriptions, deed research, and boundary analysis. 
  • Review field data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements. 
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and licensed surveyors on deliverables. 


Qualifications: 

Associate degree or technical diploma in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering technology, or related field preferred. 

1–3 years of experience in land surveying (field or office) preferred; entry-level candidates with relevant coursework will be considered.
